Yes, I know that the New York Stock Exchange was down for a bit over 3 hours today because of a software glitch, probably from a faulty update.It's not a big deal. This happens to electronic stock exchanges every few years.
Additionally, unlike 40 years ago, there are a plethora of other exchanges which can pick up the slack, and they did.
